TUYO, TINAPA AND GALUNGGONG
By: Bo Sanchez

Let me tell you a story. Three construction workers were on top of their half-finished skyscraper. Rrrrring!” the lunch bell sounded, and the three men sat on a steel beam jutting out of the 56th floor with their lunch boxes in hand.

The first guy opens his and groans in exasperation, “Tuyo!” There is not a day that I don’t get tuyo for lunch!” He turns to his buddies and announces, “Mark my words. If I still get tuyo tomorrow, I’m going to throw myself from this building.”

The second guy opens his lunch box and moans, “Tinapa”. Everyday, I get tinapa!” He looks at his friends and declares, “Believe me when I say this. If I get tinapa tomorrow, I’m going to jump and kil! l myself.”

The third guy opens his lunch box and it was his turn to despair. “Galunggong” . All I get is galunggong!” I’m telling you, if I still get galunggong tomorrow, I’m going to jump from this building and die.”

The next day, the lunch bell rings and all three men are again seated on the 56th floor. The first guy opens his lunch box and starts crying, “Tuyoooooo!” And so he jumps and crashes on the ground.

The second guy opens his lunch box and wails loudly, “Tinapaaaa!” And he also hurls himself off the building and dies.

The third guy opens his lunch box and screams, “Galunggonggggg! ” And so he too jumps off the building and splatters on the ground.

Days later, during the funeral of the three men, their three wives embrace and weep together. The first wife cries out, “I didn’t know my husband didn’t like tuyo anymore! Why didn’t he tell me? If only he told me, I would have prepared something else.”

The second wife echoes her statement, “Yes! If only I knew, I would have cooked something else, not tinapa!”

The third wife, between sobs, speaks up, “I don’t know why my husband killed himself.” The two wives look at her curiously.
“Why?”
She went on, “Because … my husband prepares his own lunch everyday…”

I love this crazy story because it presents a very important truth: all of us prepare our own lunch. If we don’t like our jobs, if we don’t like the state of our relationships, if! we don’t like what’s happening to our spiritual lives – we have no one to blame but ourselves. Because God has given us free will. He has given us the power to prepare our own lunch.

If you want to earn more and be free from debt, if you’re sick and tired of your bad habits, if we want to put more joy in our marriages, if we want to grow in our relationship with God – then go back to your kitchen and prepare yourself another dish. Because you design your own future. You create your own destiny. Ask yourself what kind of future do you want to have? What kind of life? What kind of eternity? You decide.

5 Reasons Why God Uses Problems

The problems you face will either defeat you or develop you – depending on how you respond to them.
Unfortunately, most people fail to see how God wants to use problems for good in their lives.
They react foolishly and resent their problems rather than pau! sing to consider what benefit they might bring.
Here are five ways God wants to use the problems in your life:

1. God uses problems to DIRECT you.
Sometimes God must light a fire under you to get you moving. Problems often point us in a new direction and motivate us to change. Is God trying to get your attention? “Sometimes it takes a painful situation to make us change our ways.”
Proverbs 20:30

2. God uses problems to INSPECT you.
People are like tea bags…if you want to know what’s inside them, just drop them into hot ever water! Has God tested your faith with a problem What do problems reveal about you? “When you have many kinds of troubles, you should be full of joy, because you know that these troubles test your faith, and this will give you patience.”
James 1:2-3

3. God uses problems to CORRECT you.
Some lessons we learn only through pain and failure. It’s likely that as a child your parents told you not to touch a hot stove. But you probably learned by being burned. Sometimes we only learn the value of something… health, money, a relationship. .. by losing it. “It was the best thing that could have happened to me, for it taught me to pay attention to your laws.”
Psalm 119:71-72

4. God uses problems to PROTECT you.
A problem can be a blessing in disguise if it prevents you from being harmed by something more serious. Last year a friend was fired for refusing to do something unethical that his boss
had asked him to do. His unemployment was a problem – but it saved him from being convicted and sent to prison a year later when management’s actions were eventually discovered.
“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good…Genesis 50:20

5. God uses problems to PERFECT you.
Problems, when responded to correctly, are character builders. God is far more interested in your character than your comfort.Your relationship to God and your character are the only two things you’re going to take with you into eternity. “We can rejoice when we run into problems… they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady.”
Romans 5:3-4

Here’s the point:
God is at work in your life – even when you do not recognize it or understand it. But it’s much easier and profitable when you cooperate with Him.
“Success can be measured not only in achievements, but in lessons learned,
lives touched and moments shared along the way”

LIFE IS AN ECHO.
What you send out, you get back. What you give, you receive.
WHEN YOU BRING OUT THE BEST IN OTHERS, YOU BRING OUT THE BEST IN YOURSELF.

The Power of Prayer For Others

This article was issued last July 2007 from the Foursquare Davao Gospel Church:

There’s no telling how much the world has changed as the result of the silent prayers of Christian throughout history. God’s hand moves when people prays together. Time and again, prayerful Christians can testify that through prayer God makes the impossible, possible.

The act of Praying of Pleading with God on behalf of someone else is called intercession. It is a selfless act is considered by some people to be the highest form of prayer. Jesus was an intrercessor. He spent time interceding for the disciples and the believers who would come after them, which includes us.

Anyone can intercede for another person. People do it all the time. As a parent I ask God to protect my children and help them through life. As a wife, I pray for my husband’s well being and faithfulness. As a teacher, I pray for my students’ safety and success. As a friend, I pray for my friends’ needs and welfare.

When praying, we should maintain a positive, joyful attitude. Our attitude impacts nearly every aspect of our lives. It influences our behavior, affects our ability to learn, determines our contentment, and colors our relationships. As we speak on increasing amount of time praying for others, we will find that our attitude towards people improves. We become more postive and compassionate. In Celebration of Discipline , Richard Foster said: “To pray is to change. Prayer is the central avenue God uses to transform us. If we are unwilling to change, we will abandon prayer as a noticeable characteristic of our lives. The closer we come to the heartbeat of God the more we see a need and the more we desire to be conformed to Christ. To pray is to change.”

The challege is now before us to focus on God’s power: Psalm 62:8 “Trust in Him at all times. o people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.” When a group of people lifts up their church and its people in prayer, the results can be incredibly awesome and rewarding. God is amongst His people when we huddle together in prayer. As a congregation let’s get excited, dynamic and involved by being a part of a prayer ministry in church. In prayer, it is always a think-win-win solution. We create an atmosphere where God can work….and the blessings will flow!

My Personal Message:

Thus, let us always remember that GOD is just a Prayer away. We could call on him anytime you need His comfort. We all know how powerful Prayer is, so don’t think twice you may now start praying for others and you will see the great result tha God has promised to us. Keep this verse in mine, 1Thesalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing.” A prayer is an act of worshipping GOD.
